Main goals
- Improve food safety at sub-regional level, through more efficient grain markets
- Create market conditions that facilitate investment in grain production, storage and distribution
Specific objectives
Improve grain marketing and storage strategies for the West African private sector, through a better risk management – in line with prospective competitive intelligence
Beneficiaries
- The West African Grain Network (ROAC) and its 8 member organizations (CIC of producers, vendors, and processors) present in 9 countries (Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, and Guinea)
- 50 CIC member organizations and 500 private storage companies for price risk training and support/advice
- 10,000 West African grain producers are informed and supported through various channels (advice, SMS and newsletters) on grain marketing and storage strategies
Results
R1. Design an information and advice offer adapted to the needs of the private sector, implemented by the ROAC
R2. Develop a network of private storage companies around the ROAC
R3. Strengthen technical expertise and involvement of the grain sector in the governance and regulation of their industry in West Africa
Activities
A1. Implement a simple and robust infrastructure to collect, exchange and disseminate market information
A2. Training and skills transfer within CIC members of the ROAC, in terms of market analysis and production of tailored information for member operators
A3. Lead the network and tool’s transfer in order to ensure its continuation and institutional establishment within the ROAC
A4. Support activities taken care of by RONGEAD: designing actions and training, and organizing workshops
