The not-so-sweet truth is that to create space for new cocoa farms, the chocolate industry is fueling deforestation at an alarming rate, hitting the accelerator on climate change, destroying native habitats, and leaving a bitter taste in our mouths.

But initiatives to stop deforestation are coming into effect soon which is increasing traceability (yay!) and accountability. However, we worry that the burdens of these regulations will ultimately fall on the cocoa farmers.

Everyone, chocolate companies, governments, civil society and consumers, not just cocoa farmers have a role to ensure that in our pursuit of sustainable cocoa is fair for all.
