Main goals

Transparency in global supply-chains is becoming a new reality that economic actors involved in commodities production and trade have to take into account. EFI, through its EU REDD Facility and its involvement in the Trase initiative (Transparency for Sustainable Economies https://trase.earth), is helping producer and consumer governments in using such transparency as an opportunity for better law enforcement and forest governance, as well as an economic advantage on global commodity markets.

Specific objectives

  • Investigating on trade data availability of some commodities with risk of deforestation
  • Assess the accessibility, quality and homogeneity of these data

Results

R1. Brief inception report to ensure there is a common understanding of the assignment (related to objective 1 of this task
R2. Simple database spreadsheet to describe the characteristics of commodities value chains
R3. Implementation plan justifying countries and commodities to be studied, and describing the different steps with related contact and main stakeholders
R4. Evaluation/table report describing the characteristics of commodities export data availability
R5. Final report, summarizing steps of work performed and main results of each task. This report should provide recommendations on the most likely countries and commodities for Trase development, with related suggestions of collaborations /partnerships
