Mé REDD+ Project - To tackle deforestation and forest degradation in the Mé region
Partners
Main goals
57% of the forests of Ivory Coast disappeared between 1990 and 2015 (BNETD, 2016). Only 3.4 million ha of forest remain and this decline is largely attributable to cocoa cultivation of which Côte d'Ivoire is the world's largest producer.
To address this situation, the objective of the REDD + Project (PRM) is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the Mé region while improving living conditions of the populations bordering these forests.
Specific objectives
Laying the foundation for a green economy by actively participating in current processes of decentralization and securing land rights
Preserving, renewing and adding value to regional agricultural and forestry capital by demonstrating that it is possible to reconcile the reduction of pressure on natural resources and rural development, with cocoa farming leading the way
Measure the impacts of the project and support the national REDD + process, particularly in terms of mobilizing the necessary funding for scaling up and deploying a jurisdictional approach
