Context
Nitidæ is a 1901 law association created in France. It is the result of the merger of two French NGOs, Etc Terra (created in 2012) and Rongead (created in 1983). Through large-scale replicable field projects, Nitidæ wishes to demonstrate that it is possible and beneficial to reconcile economic dynamism and preservation of natural capital in the rural territories of southern countries. Nitidæ thus implements projects reconciling the preservation of the environment and the strengthening of local economies in rural territories of Southern countries, with initiatives focused on the preservation of forests and ecosystems (reduction of deforestation), strengthening value chains and improving the energy efficiency of transformation processes. The representation of Nitidæ in Ivory Coast opened in 2016 for Etc Terra and 2001 for Rongead. In 2020 and 2021 Nitidæ was awarded, respectively by the French Fund for the Global Environment (FFEM) and by the European Union (EU), two grants for the financing of a territorial program dedicated to forest preservation and rural development on the outskirts of the Mabi-Yaya Nature Reserve, in the Mé region in Côte d'Ivoire: the PRM2 program - Preserving the biodiversity of Mabi-Yaya & Strengthening development socio-economic of the Mé.
Présentation du programme PRM2
Based on the successes of the REDD+ de la Mé (PRM), implemented in the region between 2016 and 2020, the overall objective of the PRM2 Program is to ensure, over 3 years, the environmental sustainability of the new nature reserve of Mabi-Yaya, created in 2019, in the Mé region as well as the territorial and sectoral development of the villages on the outskirts of the nature reserve, and more broadly in the Mé region. Six major results must be achieved by the project:
R1. Improve the land tenure and territorial governance of the Mé Region, in particular on the outskirts of the Mabi-Yaya nature reserve
R2. Support the management of the reserve
R3. Improve the governance of the forest on the outskirts of the reserve
R4. Support the transition of production methods and agricultural practices of agricultural producers on the outskirts of the reserve
R5. Support in peripheral areas income-generating activities favorable to the protection of the reserve
R6. Measure the impact of the project and build a "zero deforestation" benchmark
